How To Deal With Overwhelm: What is keeping you stuck

December 24, 2018

If you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed, you know that is quite frustrating. It’s particularly frustrating when you are trying to reach your goals. You have major plans for your life and dreams to fulfill. When you are stuck in a state of overwhelm, time and opportunities keep passing you by. There are key things to pay attention to, so you can continue on your journey to success

Spend Time With The Lord
God is your source. Do you just wake up and go on about your day? Or do you start your day with worship and prayer ? Give God your first fruits. Devotional time is essential to your peace and wellbeing. Spend quality time with God, and read your Bible day and night. You will notice the clarity and a major shift.

Language Matters
What are you saying to yourself that’s causing you to feel the way you do? “I can’t, I won’t. I should've.”  There are many things that you could say that aren't beneficial to you. Stop saying that you are overwhelmed. It makes you feel more overwhelmed. And you are less productive as a result. Change your inner dialogue, and change the way you feel.

You’re Not That Busy
Think about it? Are you really that busy? Or are you just telling yourself that? Stop it! You chose your schedule. If you feel as though it's too much, eliminate something. Everything that you sign up for is not a priority. Something needs to change, and you have the power to do that.

Stop Responding To Urgency
So what if someone liked your Instagram Post…Okay, so you have a few email requests today. You don't have to respond right away. We have to learn to say no sometimes. Every urgent request doesn’t have to be urgent to you. Don’t put anything else on your plate.

Be Careful Not To Overconsume Information
Your brain is powerful but it can only effectively take so much information at a time. Give your mind an opportunity to process information. Whether you are reading, watching, or listening, be mindful of how much information you are taking in. It can make you feel uneasy and confused.

Relinquish Responsibility Of Other People’s Problems
If you find that other people’s burdens become yours, that is a big problem. Do you find yourself entangled in other people's drama? You will experience unnecessary stress if you do.

Keep Your Home, Desk, and Car Decluttered

If you have a lot of items and you tend to be unorganized, then take time to get those things in order. Anytime you have an abundance of things to manage, it creates feelings of confusion and discomfort.

Empty Out
We all need an outlet sometimes. If you never release any of the information that you are taking in, it will catch up with you. You need to unload some of what you are taking in. Otherwise, your thoughts and emotions will control you.

Be Still and Quiet

Psalm 46:10 says, ...“Be still, and know that I am God. How often are you still and quiet? Do you give God an opportunity to speak to you and work in your life?  Trust him with life. Trust him with the things that you cannot control. Have a seat? Stop talking so much. The battle is not yours...

In a nutshell, there are a number of steps you can take to eliminate feeling overwhelmed. Take time to be self-aware, so you can make a sound decision that won’t leave you feeling exhausted. You can get unstuck and have the lifestyle that you’ve always desired. You were designed to be great.
