Many of us know gratefulness and happiness are connected. If you don’t, I won’t leave you in the dark. Gratefulness is connected to happiness because when you appreciate what you have, you feel good and happy inside. When you think about things in a certain way, you feel a certain way . To put it in Biblical terms, Proverbs 23:7 it says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Your thoughts have power.
When it comes to gratitude and self-confidence, you will notice a similar connection. Anytime, you are ungrateful, you are thinking in a way that causes you to feel bad. Your thoughts are aligned with your feelings. When you think in a negative way, it will impact the way you see yourself, God, and other people. In other words, if I have a negative view of the world, I am going to feel negative about myself. And I will be less likely to be successful because I will be less likely to try. In the eyes of an ungrateful person, many things aren’t working out for them. That kind of thinking causes you to question your self-worth.
There will always be something that is not working perfectly in your life. That is normal. Acknowledge and address those areas as they come, but don’t dwell on them. Make a list of what you are grateful for everyday. What is working in your life? What can you appreciate about God, yourself, and your other relationships? When you see life through that set of lenses, your confidence increases. Stay focused on what makes you feel good.
