7 Reasons Why People Give Up on Their Dreams

November 5, 2018

Do you ever think about giving up on your dreams or have you already given up on them? Don't feel discouraged if you have? Most people give up on their dreams, and the average person settles for a safer and more complacent lifestyle. They go for whatever is easier for them. It is an anomaly to follow through with our biggest goals. Here are some of the reasons why:

Fear of failure

1. The vast majority of people who never achieve their dreams give up because they are afraid to fail. Sadly, failure means the end to some people. As a result, it does not take long for them to develop a mindset of defeat and give up.

2.  Poor Goal Setting
This one happens more often than not. The average person does not understand how to set proper goals. This an important skill to learn. Life coaches are experts at goal setting. You may need to hire one.

3. Lack of Emotional Management

What are you feeling? You probably didn’t realize that your feelings are causing you to act a certain way. They can either hurt you or help you.

4. Comparison

When you compare yourself, it usually disempowers you because you will never be exactly like anyone else. You can look to people for inspiration, but God made everyone unique. When you embrace your uniqueness, you will move mountains.

 5. Unrealistic Expectations

What did you think was supposed to happen? What's your timeline? Are you trained and prepared? If you do not know what to expect, you can get discouraged. Do your research first.

6. Low Self-esteem

You need self-confidence to fulfill your dreams. There will be highs and lows, and if you do not believe in yourself, you won’t make it very far.

7. Lack of Support

You need other people. You can only make it so far on your own. Even if you have mastered everything else on this list, you will be stuck on one level without the help of others. We are relational beings, and we were created to be a part of a community.

Maybe you identify with all of these reasons, and you've struggled to meet your goals. The good news is you are still here. That means you still have an opportunity to go after your dreams. Your age does not matter. If you are able, then do it. You were created for a great purpose.
